Solace

Prompt by Sunday Scribblings.

Solace.

Family and nature provide solace and comfort for me. Fortunately, all but one family member live near here and communication is easy with the one who lives on the west side of Washington but visits here as often as her work permits.

Strangely, the Southwest desert draws my attention when seeking solace even though tall white pines and cedars surrounding 'our' lake are impressive and happy-making.

spirits on a stick
circle prickly pear
ring the rosy
dance the moons away

at the foot of lofty
spears of hoodoo
stories trickle
by ocotillo thorns

over terra cotta rock
in that arid land where
rain returns to dust
long before it falls

Old watercolor by Sue.

I live in the Northeast but visited Scottsdale four Christmasses in a row so I can realkly picture your words! I was awed by the scenery.

This is so lovely and evocative! I especially like "stories trickle by ocotillo thorns." You have captured the spirit of the place and the feeling of peace that it provides.

I'm not sure what hoodoo is - but it sounds exotic.

Family does provide solace - but we appreciate them even more when they are far away.

You conjure up a beautiful scene there.

I have changed the URL fo my blog 'Basawad's Safari Notes' from: http://omar-basawad.blogspot.com/ to http://safarinotes.blogspot.com/.

Note: now, somebody else has hijacked the previous URL and is using it in a very distasteful way. It's a very good lesson: never delete or change a blog URL, especially if it's personal.

Lovely little watercolor to go with this poem; so much thought put into the arm (stick?) (limb?) of a cactus.

Lovely musings on this week’s Sunday Scribblings topic … having family close by seems wonderful to me. I enjoyed your poetic images making the desert more appealing than I usually consider it to be.
Hugs and blessings,
