Lurching into Summer

Totally Optional Prompt: Summer. Be sure to check this site - superb prompts and lots of extraordinarily fine work.

crystals of pneumonia
curdle the milk of amnesia

churn the nights
into guess-again clumps

breath hums through hose
dumps puzzle parts by the score

fraudulent flashbacks of Puerto Rico
a giveaway pink slipper chair

shoes in the middle row
mirror a painter’s last stroke

speech ran off on her legs
during that double dark of disorder

when disarray reigned and
nightmares transformed truth

into fiction even she
wouldn’t write, can't believe

Dear Sue,
I spent a full hour, on and off, with your poem. I kept thinking to myself, "I don't speak this language..." But I wanted to. It was so beautiful. I wanted to understand all of what you were saying.
Was she delirious? Assaulted? Ill?
What do we think happened in Puerto Rico?
I am twenty again and concentrating on beautifulsyllables from my Nicaraguan boyfriend, listening so hard. I want to know exactly what you mean.

Wow, Sue! This is quite powerful and troubling. I'm going to bookmark it to come read again.

Every word full of multiple meanings. This is so deep, and disturbing, and beautiful ...
You've come back at the gallop!

Wow, Sue I had to read that over and over till I think I understand your images and meaning. I'm just not at the same level as you are my dear.
Although we all do seem to make each other grow.
Just beyond words. Beautiful and so deceptive and woven images. Wonderful!

love you, Melanie

Dear Sue,
I read all of your poems out loud. I love the sounds of the words. I "see" your images too.
Thank you. These poems seem to flow from you!
So glad they do!

Confusion amid beauty - often difficult to distinguish when other things occupy our minds.

Worthy of more than one read to "get" - I too will be returning for the full meaning! :)

In a recent poll over on Read Write Poem, I answered that I was honest and admitted when I didn't understand a poem. I don't fully understand this one and when I started to read I guessed that the inspiration was coming from what has happened to you recently, keeping you away from your blog, and that 'she' is you. The images are extraordinary, even on your standards and the poem to speak to me at a level not directly related to the words. I think T S Eliot called it the 'auditory imagination'.

I don't get all of it but those images are so wonderful! You have a way of combining words that turns them into something new and creates fireworks in my mind!

Your poem reads like a midsummer night's dream. I love the surreal combination of objects from daily life, twisted around.
