Dear USPS
You say it's not your fault that four checks I mailed from one of your lovely royal blue collection stations didn't arrive at its intended destination. They disappeared into space much as missing e-mails might but without a spam folder to search.
Questions to local supervisors reveal there's no way to trace these missives unless they were certified. Okay, maybe I got a little querulous when I suggested that Star Wars containers, always new images on a bazillion stamps and wild-about-consumers TV advertising have taken your eye off the ball. You say these things are necessary for competition. Competition? Who?
Last week, I took a homemade CD enclosed in a birthday card to the postal substation for delivery to Hayden and found the new rates increased that few mile trip by more than one-hundred per cent because CD's don't bend. In early May, CDs were easily sent by regular overpriced first class mail. Did they bend then?
What is it, exactly, that you self-proclaimed heroes of hail, sleet and snow want?
I know what I want. When I send mail, I expect it to be delivered or sent back to my return address. When I ask why it wasn't, I expect a straightforward answer and a resolution. How many times will I re-write checks, cancel payment, pay increased credit card rates before I take everything online?
Am I the only one? Are others experiencing this lack of follow-through?
Signed,
Disgruntled

Hi Grandma,
I hear you on this one! One of Rick's bills was sent back because we didn't know postage went up AGAIN and the stamp was 2 cents short!! AARRRGGGHHHH!

We got tired of it about two years ago - and converted everything to auto pay. We always said we wouldn't give out our information to be used online, etc. - but it seemed the lesser of two evils. We haven't had any trouble. (Knock on wood.)

Attention University of Maryland off campus students and graduate students
The College Park Md Post Office has caused 1000+'s pieces of 1st class mail, DMV notices, end of year financial statements, Jury Duty Summonses, credit cards and "Final Notice" certified mail notices, mail from university departments that were mailed to University of Maryland students and student organizations at addresses other than mine in College Park, Md that were either forwarded to my winter home in Florida or delivered to my home of 50 years on Norwich Road in College Park, Md 20740. The number of affected off-campus graduates since 2000 may reach 35,000.My aunts Christmas card along with all my mail in December 2005 were returned marked "Box closed" or "deceased". Thinking something had happened to me, she called my 80 year old mother and had her upset until they tracked me down.
In past 7 years, over 1000 pieces of my mail has been returned to sender. In past 2 years, The situation has been under close watch and documents will show over 400 pieces of my mail has been misdirected by the College Park Md Post Office. I have had the same address since 1957. This ongoing problem of me not receiving my mail during past 7 years has resulted in me paying many late charges, having my credit rating affected, having my water service at my home turned off and spending 1000+ hours and much expense addressing the problem cause by the failure of the College Park Md Post Office to deliver the my mail correctly and not correcting the constant misdirecting of my mail. Discussions between me and employees at College Park Md Post Office addressing their delivery practices was akin to listening to Bud Abbott and Lou Costello go through a rendering of "Who’s On First."
Click here to view examples of misdirected mail delivered to 4607 Norwich Road College Park, Md 20740. Most of this misdirected mail is addressed to residents of the Sigma Nu fraternity house at 4617 Norwich Road College Park, Md and other Norwich Road addresses, but some are from other side of town..
Prior to hiring a housekeeper in 2001, I would lockup house including taping up the mail slot in November and not returning until May only to find tape removed from mail slot and 100's of letters for people on Norwich Road and other parts of College Park on my front porch. Students are gone in May and I would take a box of mail to post office only to have many of them delivered again to me in a few days. You'll be able to view these misdirected 1st class and certified mail pieces further in the file. Click Here to view example of misdirected Certified Mail Notices to AGR fraternity house.
Whose wallet is your card in?
Click here to see one of the credit cards that were sent to me in Venice, Florida that was meant for a College Park resident.
You may contact College Park, Md. Postmaster Danny Bell at 301-345-8923. He has been updated regularly of the delivery problems in his office.
