G for ABC Wednesday

A gracious geranium hosts a hyper hummer who'd been sipping sugary nectar from the feeder before spying the real thing.

The picture is a little blurry (okay, it might be a lot blurry) because these little guys move far faster than my camera. She grazed my ear as she gallivanted from one end of the deck to the other.

A chance to catch her in a still shot came soon after this when she flew up to examine a fly strip. Glad she didn't get glued to that, although it would have been an easier photo capture.

Is your shutter speed as fast as the general hummingbird?

F for ABC Wednesday

A frog from the flip side. This little hopper was creeping up the window glass with his tongue primed for a flittering tiny moth loitering in the sash corner. Frog's journey was a step forward followed by two slips back. The fearless moth fluttered on.

I'm sure there was an ending, but I didn't see it. Do you have one in mind?

E for ABC Wednesday

 A fractal.

Dog days' ennui, low-fueled energy and half-fed excuses create weird addictions.

Ugly pigs and nasty birds have eaten more of my life in the last week than I could possibly have imagined even though I'm aware of having a rather addictive personality. Angry Birds, played for the first time on a granddaughter's iPad, was so much fun that when I learned it could be played free on my computer using the Chrome browser, I flew right to it.

The sun rises, the sun sets.  My chair is always warm and the only concession I've made is to mute the oinking squawking noises. :)

Do you play this crazy game?

D for ABC Wednesday

Dinghy Duck

She circled wide, then hopped aboard with a waggle and dance. Some time later, she flew away. Within half an hour, she returned to us like a homing pigeon and jumped on the swimmers' platform where she continued to ride and dive and ride. Fishing was a disaster for that day.

Do you know ducks who would rather ride than fly or swim?

The Door for Magpie Tales #77

Tess Kincaid of Magpie Tales offers this visual prompt for writers.

Summer Evening, Edward Hopper, 1947

the future leaned
against a half wall of faultless
the locked door
hid what they didn't want to know

bathed in light
wrapped in dreamy visions
the locked door
hid what they'd come to know

sunset fell and morning rose
moths fluttered round the bulb
the locked door yawned
released a puff of careless thoughts

sent the future
reeling, undone and splintered
like the clapboard half wall
where dreams declined to nest

C for ABC Wednesday

A coinkydink of color

A daughter gathered a dozen small geranium plants (red being the color of choice) for her planter boxes. One plant contained a secret which it hid until first bloom. In a coinkydink, this white geranium had been planted exactly in the center of the reds.

I don't know about  you, but I had never seen a white geranium. We still wonder how it turned out to be the pivotal plant. Coinkydink, I guess. Have you had similar coinkydinks?
