O for ABC Wednesday

Oenopoetic: of, like or pertaining to wine-making (The 'poetic' ending is interesting to me.)

I don't know much about wine except that it looks like summer in a glass. Two sips make my nose numb and stop my brain.

A daughter and her hubby make wine and watching the process creates a craving for a taste of their newest blend.

Maybe with the next batch, I'll learn a little oinomancy or divination using wine.

Are you an oenophile?

Tanka for Magpie Tales #63

Magpie Tales offers an enigmatic image on a weekly basis to elicit words from writers. Number 63:

wild flowers blossom
in the distant Pleiades
vivid fractal hues
bright baby stars whirling free
claimed by astral nurseries

Poem for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry offers a series of poem prompts. I chose number seven:

A Predicament

a murder of crows
binds a score of skips
edged in the gritty noise
of rocks in a creek

fractures ticks of time
in a mile-wide night
before a flash of wings
sweeps her near the tide

drenched in smoky mirrors
she arises
on the right side of night
her chronicle intact

N for ABC Wednesday

Naissant: nascent, rising or coming forth

The word appears far too large for these tiny green shoots that are trying to grow into cilantro after being planted indoors last week in emptied K-cup coffee containers. I'm sure this is the easiest part.

It snowed here again today but it didn't pile up. Several dozen of these tiny green things looked outside and were happy to be indoors. Me, too.

This is my first experience with indoor planting and I have to say my garden lives only in my mind. How about yours?

ABC Wednesday

M could represent Mandala fractals.

This small interactive program   http://www.russellcottrell.com/MandalaExplorer/   allows you to create wonderful fractals in a variety of formats and colors. Each click brings a new image...it's mesmerizing. This is the Windows version.

I've just started playing with this and can tell it's going to be a great deal of fun! Do you think you'll try it?

Poem for Big Tent Poetry

A Baker's Dozen

legend says
the thirteenth witch
frees the owlies

rabid shrieks
shear the night
stir the coven's twelve

a baker's dozen
makes the tipping point
sets off backstabbing

thirteen witches
whistle up the demons
so says the legend

Lava Lamp for ABC Wednesday

Lava lights are making a comeback or maybe they never left. Do you have one?

Never did I think about making one but the directions are linked for you brave adventurers:
http://www.nylearns.org/module/content/pyb/resources/11680/view.ashx

Soap Lake, WA was gifted by Target with the large lava lamp which was being dismantled in Times Square. http://www.giantlavalamp.com   After much excitement and fund raising, the initial push fell through. Now there are new plans: http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/04/03/v-lite/1611260/new-plans-for-massive-lava-lamp.html

Since Soap Lake is much closer than Times Square, I'm hoping this comes together - I know I'd love this lava lamp. Wouldn't you?

Tanka for Big Tent Poetry

From a plethora of prompts, I chose this...Write about feathers and stilettos (but no person can be wearing them).

balanced on the edge
she knifed the tether of loss
strode strong and certain
the crow's feather swept her tracks
removed footprints of the past
