K for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 7: K is for.....

kickie-wickie

The Oxford English Dictionary defines kickie-wickie as: 'a jocular or ludicrous term for a wife.'

This silly-willy word was used by Shakespeare in All's Well That Ends Well, so it isn't a johnny-come-lately to linguistic ludicrosity.

Mark Peters, lexicographer and humorist, is a contributor of language posts at MSN and you can find his articles at http://www.good.is/community/MarkPeters  and at http://www.good.is/post/whoo-hoo-linguistic-reduplication/

I must admit that I am not a wife but have heard few funnier substitutions. I can hardly imagine the word being used. Can you?

Haibun for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry prompts: write about travel (real or imagined) using the haibun form

Archer's Target

A red, orange and yellow swirl of curl soothes the restless sky where Archer hides while soaring colors dance and wave with thermal loops.

The bobbin spins meters of freedom before gravity gives in and the swirl continues its final flight.

J for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 7: 'J'

Jell-O creates giggling youngsters using cookie cutters to design hand-held Jigglers. When that method isn't imaginative enough, a plastic fork or knife can render an uncommon form which is eyed with jealousy by the next would-be artist. Colors, swirls, fun and joy. And, of course, easy-O.

For oldsters who tipple: Jell-O shots are highly joyful.

And whodathunk? A Jell-O Museum in New York - http://www.jellogallery.org/

The image is from the Kraft Jell-O website:  http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/jell-o-jigglers-53920.aspx I chose a simple image but there are some incredibly complex Jigglers happenin' out there!

Have you had Jell-O Jigglers? Don't you just love them?

Weekend Child for BigTent

Big Tent Poetry offers the following prompt words in a Wordle: skirt, child, swarm, debris, dock, evidence, half-eaten, chant, embellish, answer, backbone, temporary

Weekend Child

she chants old rhymes
star light, star bright

a swinging Christopher
and a clingy skirt

fosters half-eaten faith
debris swarms the dash

temporary answers
give no evidence of love

her backbone weakens
behold the weekend child

I for ABC Wednesday

ABC WEDNESDAY ROUND 7: I

Ideas and a hard-work legacy shaped this tiny Camp Camelot into an idyllic spot to lean back, to remember and to share. Five generations have viewed sunsets and moonrises from this hand-me-down site.

Impossible to get to during the long winter months, it offers itself only to the brief summer when it shares the whispers of ever-changing dreams.

As my time of tenure dwindles to a close, I can't help but wonder what new imaginings will begin here.

Do you have an ideal place to share with family and the very closest of friends?

Last Word for BigTent

Big Tent prompts to write of what you said, what you wished you'd said.

Last Word

along the river
of broken things
the vagrant wind
unearths a sea floor

its shore abandoned
old form ignored
while shadows rhyme
and danger falls

a rising hum of shells
breathes out my mouth
and scales the endless dark
do not cross my path again

Notes for Big Tent Poetry

Big Tent Poetry

Watching as summer sneaks away, I collect scenes and sounds inside words -

Notes

like Zelda at the gate
a cocky strut of blue
crowns the fence top
dares the neighbor's zipsaw

drying leaves sift down
orange tomatoes hang for red
hard green pears dangle
droughty plums drop and roll

gray gleaners Pac-Man seeds
where weeds fall to earth
chatter like bratty kids
gimme, I saw it first

Sun Salutation considers
clouds building in the west
the sun feels warm
but shadow cools the mat
