Covert for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings posted the prompt: Covert

bird of paradise
hums in the night

whispers warnings
from a dark abyss

live wires twist away
gambol on sheer and flimsy ice

under foot and over head
faultline crackles spread

bird of paradise
crying in the night

Storyteller recently posted a beautiful series of photographs of the exotic Bird of Paradise. I created this image on Bamboo Fun with Adobe Photoshop Elements, cropped in Irfanview and framed with FrameFun.

S for ABC Wednesday

The ABC Wednesday Team offers the letter S as the weekly prompt! Thank you, Team!

Solo

A solitary swan took flight
toward the edge of a dusky night
where a setting sun bled the day
deep into the coastal waterway.

Both the watercolor sketch and the poem were among my first attempts nearly a decade ago when I was beyond everything known and on my way to an unknown phase/chapter.

Poem for Totally Optional Prompts

Totally Optional Prompts: Opposites. What happens when opposites combine?

Just Past Before

half a world past dark
when wobble
alters axis

in a crush of time
poles trade space
warm swings to cool

revelations
unwrite tomorrow
while words twist

dust to ashes
somewhere beyond
half a world past light

his treacherous token wife

R for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday offers R as the prompt this week!

Road First Traveled

deep in the forest
each turn hides
its spring surprise

a washout or
maybe a fallen tree
a bumbling moose

or a regal elk
a lumbering bear
or four-pack of atv's

our car crawls along
over rocks and ruts
while somewhere ahead

a plethora of deer
graceful as sunrise
move like the wind

Poem for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings offers the prompt: I'd like to hear your take on being disconnected.

Disconnection

skip and thump
the creep of time

protective shield
altered in a blink

that mantle drapes
too soon on her

no bright markers
lead the way

the path is clean
the map is gone like

footprints scrubbed
from sand by tides

Orchid Bayou is an original watercolor.

Late for Totally Optional Prompts

Totally Optional Prompts posts: Tardiness

Late

her future loiters
on the double offsides
of a dozen tomorrows ~
tonight she breathes
a kiss for amour
to the bright Venus star,
first twinkle of dusk,
while pleading to miss
that well-known downside
of endless tardiness

Poem for 3WW

ThomG at 3WordWednesday offers these words for today's prompt: nervous, bicker and trajectory.

Addiction

feeding the eventide
nervous fits of bicker
rise from a root cellar
pocked with rubble

bloody friction
breeds tight as moss
beside the end trajectory
and still, they wrangle

Original watercolor by Tumblewords, resized in Irfanview and framed in FrameFun.

Q for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday prompts with the letter Q. Thank you, MsNesbitt!

This card game is giggling entertainment. It is fun when played with several spellers and a couple of 'not'. An offshoot of rummy, the object of the game is to spell words from a dealt hand. Ideally, these would be real words properly spelled but they are often pretenders. Each game begins with a deal of 3 cards which is increased by one card each hand until a 10-card deal has been reached. Draw and discard forms the basic play until one player can empty his hand.

This link will take you to the http://Quiddler.com page where you can play a couple of online games (or more). Or you can order the game. Have fun!

P for ABC Wednesday

ABC Wednesday offers the letter P as prompt this week. Thank you, Ms. Nesbitt!

Pend O'Reille,
my lake of choice.
Because my early years
as well as later vacations
took place here,
this place is tightly tied
to everything I hold dear.

Poem for Heads or Tails

Skittles at Heads or Tails offers: EDGE - "Any Past Theme" Make any kind of post using any past theme as your prompt.

I chose Mother.

Still

My mother was gone
by the age I am
messages
she might have shared
are nowhere found
there’s no lead
to follow
no clues to see
she didn’t go here
it’s all new to me
I write my life
by first-hand view
no warning words
no clear cut signs
an unmarked path.
Still,
I want to ask.

The digital photo shows Lily of the Valley blossoms as seen from earth's view.

The image began as a watercolor and was morphed into what you see by using several different programs (Digital Image Suite, Irfanview, FrameFun) and playing for a long time. I like what transpired, although I still like the original.

Confession for Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings prompts: Anything to confess?

between the spaces

untrussed, plucked

naked and cold

it remains

stark and raw

stiff and bold

stuck in the void

not to be withdrawn

no viable undoing

life altered by

one frozen confession

that cannot die
